The Symbolism Behind the Marilao Municipal Seal
The official seal of Marilao is a comprehensive visual representation of its identity, history, and key characteristics, highlighting its agricultural heritage, history, and aspirations.
At its heart, a shield-like emblem is framed by green bamboo stalks. These bamboo stalks represent the spears and lances used by the brave Katipuneros during the Philippine Revolution. It's believed these crucial weapons were crafted from Kawayang Bocaue (also known as Kawayang Bansot), a resilient local bamboo. Beyond its historical link to weaponry, the bamboo itself serves as a broader symbol of resiliency.
Perched directly above this central framed emblem is the founding year of Marilao, anchoring the seal in its historical origins.
The shield itself is divided into three distinct sections, each highlighting a different facet of Marilao:
- Upper Left Section (Blue Background): a golden sheaf of rice stands prominently, symbolizing the town's strong foundation in agriculture. The expansive blue background behind it represents the life-giving sky and waters that nourish the land, essential for a thriving agricultural community.
- Upper Right Section (Red Background): a bold black silhouette of a carabao, an iconic symbol of the Philippines, embodies strength and diligence, reflecting the hardworking spirit of the people of Marilao. The vibrant red background signifies the courage and vibrant spirit that defines the community.
- Lower Section: This expansive section paints a picture of abundance and heritage. It showcases a rice field with a golden harvest, representing the bounty and prosperity of the land. Alongside this harvest is the historical Prenza Dam, a significant landmark in Marilao. A traditional nipa hut and tree are also depicted, symbolizing simplicity, culture, heritage, and tradition. The serene blue sky above these elements signifies a peaceful and optimistic outlook, while the clouds remind us of life's constant change. A prominent hill in this section represents divine presence and protection watching over the town.
Encircling this central bamboo-framed shield are 16 stars. Each star proudly represents one of the 16 barangays that collectively form the Municipality of Marilao, unifying them under one emblem.
Finally, the seal proudly bears the words "Bayan ng Marilao" (Town of Marilao) and "Lalawigan ng Bulacan" (Province of Bulacan), clearly identifying its place within the larger geographical context.
